HOTEL NEDOUS, GULMARG (April 2015)

Nedous is easily the hotel with the most character in Gulmarg. Sprinkle a little bit of history, add a generous portion of Kashmiri hospitality, throw in that loving touch that makes you feel at home and top it off with some of the most spectacular views of Gulmarg and you will know you are at Nedous, Gulmarg.

I was returning to Nedous after two years, mostly because I loved it so much the first time. And I felt no different the second time through. It still retains its colonial old world charm and old world hospitality with modern facilities.

We were given room K2. It housed a separate living room, bedroom and bathroom, each with an inbuilt heating system. The heater in the bathroom was appreciated the most, especially since it was cold in April. However, you do need to keep in mind; there are a good number of stairs to climb if you want to access the Executive and Suite rooms. So, take that into account if you have elderly people travelling with you, though there are other options too for cottages closer to the reception.

The restaurant food was very good; especially enjoyed the apple crumble topped with cream and super soft pancakes that were made for me on request. (Thank you Md. Sufi once again!)

The location and views are excellent from Nedous. Close enough to the gondola and market place yet far away from the crowds. It is situated opposite the Golf Course and you can see the whole of Gulmarg from here. The last time I was in Gulmarg was in October, I was surrounded by green meadows with little sprinkles of fresh snow and snow clad mountains; this time round I was standing on 1 feet of snow on their front porch, with sheets of snow all around me and snow bikes making the rounds!

Overall, I loved our stay at Nedous and hopefully will get the opportunity to come back again. It’s a beautiful home away from home and that’s how you are made to feel at Nedous. Starting with Mr. Manzoor’s warm smile at the reception, his willingness and eagerness to help, to Md. Sufi and his team at the restaurant to their attentiveness and flawless service and Mr. Javed at housekeeping, ensuring that we were always comfortable.

Our stay was a wonderful experience. We would like to thank everyone for their true Kashmiri hospitality as we really enjoyed our time here. Nedous to say, we will be back here when we return to Gulmarg!
